Our last stop for our LA trip was Global Time Attack (GTA) held at Buttonwillow Raceway 2.5 hours away from where we were staying, home track to Californians as Wakefield is too many of us who call Sydney home (even though technically Eastern Creek Motorsport park is closer to most of us). You could say we had "one last drive" before we jet off home back to Sydney, Australia.
So, what's GTA like compared to WTAC? Well, a better comparison would be Nulon Nationals; where workshops come together to battle at a grassroots level focusing purely on track action. The novelty of going to a time attack event away from home was seeing a variety of different cars being used for time attack, not seeing a Mitsubishi EVO, 90s Skyline GTR, S-Chassis or any other iconic 90s JDM import feels really weird and at the same time quite enjoyable with lots of 'ahh, oh that's cool!" moments. The cars are seriously quick and would have no problems keeping up with their WTAC counterparts. It would be awesome to see Limited and Unlimited cars from GTA compete with the Open, ProAm and Pro class cars of WTAC. Global Time Attack and World Time attack organizers please make this happen!
For the guys who just like cars and for the short attention span ones, it might be somewhat "boring" in between sessions as there isn't anything else to do or see, but for the hardcore car enthusiasts the grassroots track day feel of the event is welcoming, and you find yourself switching into track day mode; picking out a car close to what you drive, watching it intently and waiting for its time to appear on screen, then talking crap about how you would be faster! lol.
