In the back of our minds a hoist was always on the cards for Greaser, HOWEVER, for a space/ an idea that has yet to turn over a coin, the decision to buy one wasn't made lightly. They may be four of us at Greaser but it was the belief, support and trust of our friends (in particular one person) that made it possible; You're always welcome at this house, bro!
Deciding where the hoist would go was a tough one. The most obvious choice was to have it in-line with the roller door (behind the red car, top pic of this post); cars could be driven straight on and backed off without too much fuss - however as the top picture shows, we've moved the work bench and storage shelves into that corner. Which leaves us with two other spots; either the far right corner of the building - in front of the toilets and the fridge; or where the blue sprinter was parked.
In the end, we settled for the blue sprinter's work space. Having the hoist at the most rear right of the shop (in front of the toilets) would have made moving cars in and out a nightmare. This also means moving the two long-term project cars (in the below pic, under car covers) to the front half of the shop, taking up prime workspace. Aesthetically, it's an eye sore and having 2 broken cars can be mentally discouraging when we're trying to stay focused - but more importantly, having them there would mean risking the chances of getting them damaged.
As part of the deal, the company that supplied the hoist also offered installation, so it was super easy, all that's left is for an electrician to come in and extend the 3 phase power from the main switch to the hoist, and we're done!
Started from two car stands, now we here.
