We look back and reflect on this year’s highlights. The photos below best highlight each month as Greaser wrap its first year!
JANUARY: Nicks 180SX(s) were first on the list. A manual to auto conversion and an engine swap to suit. The Greaser team then spent time on the corner shop concept.
FEBRUARY: We got our new hoist installed. 86 GREASER got sand blasted. Minh dropped off Trak180 for its 300kw atw version 2 upgrades and we for the first time got to see Simon’s NSX.
MARCH: For 2 weeks John went on a road trip discovering New Zealand. Only, to come back a week after and be road tripping again. This time with the Greaser team and Makito from L.A; he was here to help paint the NSX. Being his first trip to Australia, we thought it would be nice to treat Makito to an F1 event since he had never been.
APRIL: Makito and the Greaser team got stuck into disassembling and preparing the NSX for paint.
MAY: Du’s S15 came in for track day preparations. We installed an oil cooler, alloy radiator, gauges, Whiteline swaybars, Tein EDFC and brake pads. Minh’s car was back at Greaser to have its camshafts swapped for Poncams, to regain a beefier mid-range power band after showing a narrow power band on the dyno. Our first attempt at moulding the rear beaver panel for 86GREASER was complete but abandoned afterwards due to the finished result.
JUNE: Never really happy with the corner shop, we decided to invest some time to on the corner shop. We wanted to create a separate space from the workspace. Timber floors slates, a shop counter and multiple trips to Ikea brought the space to life.
July: Three new cars joined the Greaser stable, a wrecked IS200 for the 86GREASER build, a K-Swapped DC2 became Phuoc’s new daily and an R32 GTR for Simon.
August: Du was back, this time it was a fuel upgrade to E85 and more power! Greaser took a weekend off for a mini road trip to the Gosford Classic Car Museum after hearing good things about it.
September: Greaser’s first track day! Before we could go racing 4 cars needed to work, Minh’s Track 180SX and 3 of Greasers own AE86s.
October: Completely burnt out from September, it took 2 weeks to recover, wrenching commenced with Glenn’s R34 GTR. Then it was off to California, USA to hangout with Makito in Los Angeles and check the Chronicles Year 8 Anniversary Car meet in Corona.
November: We drove to Las Vegas Nevada in a Dodge Challenger and attended Sema the world biggest car convention and show. However, we agreed the USA trip highlight was driving through the canyon roads of Malibu.
December: Winning best paint at JDMyard Honda Showoff was the cherry on the cake for 2016.
In 2017, we have a couple of builds lined up, which we can’t wait see them come to life. We’ve been bouncing ideas to the owners on and off during 2016 and its always a good sign when the both parties are egging each other on.
86GREASER is slowly but surely still happening, even though there hasn’t been any real update on the blog. We have IN the background been wrenching, dummy fitting and testing. Our goal is to race it sooner rather than later. Hopefully before WTAC 2020.
We would like to thank all everyone who has supported and trusted us with their cars, lending us a hand and being our pillars when things got hard.
